My Personal Health Journey

Several years ago, I was diagnosed with inflammatory arthritis, an experience that profoundly shaped my understanding of pain, healing, and resilience. Through acupuncture combined with lifestyle changes, I was able to significantly reduce my symptoms and improve my quality of life, all without reliance on medication.

More recently, I have experienced firsthand the benefits of acupuncture while navigating my own journey through perimenopause. I have also witnessed its positive impact on my daughters as they go through puberty. These personal experiences deepen my empathy and insight, enriching the care I offer to clients facing similar life transitions.

Why Choose Me?

At Serene Acupuncture, you're not just receiving a treatment, you’re being genuinely listened to and supported. I bring a unique blend of clinical expertise and personal understanding of chronic pain, hormonal shifts, and emotional overwhelm.

My practice is rooted in authentic Traditional Chinese Medicine, not dry needling or one-size-fits-all protocols. Every session is tailored to meet your needs, offering a grounded, healing space where your body can find balance, without medication or side effects.

I’m deeply committed to ongoing professional development, blending the insight of modern research with the enduring wisdom of tradition to offer care that is both compassionate and clinically effective.

Your Dedicated Acupuncturist at Serene Acupuncture

Hello, I’m Sue Reen, founder of Serene Acupuncture in Cork. With over 18 years’ experience teaching in special needs education, and a lifelong passion for holistic health, I bring a unique blend of empathy, communication skills, and clinical expertise to my acupuncture practice.

My Qualifications & Background

I hold a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree from University College Dublin (UCD) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from the University of Wales, Newport.

I am proud to have earned the Licentiate in Acupuncture (Lic. Ac.) from the International College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ICTCM) in Dublin, which is widely recognized as the highest level of professional acupuncture qualification available in Ireland. ICTCM is renowned for its rigorous curriculum grounded in classical Traditional Chinese Medicine theory and clinical practice.

Under the expert mentorship of Professor Thomas J. Shanahan, a leading figure in TCM education for over 40 years, my training included an in-depth understanding of how the body’s vital systems work together, focusing on the root causes of illness and the unique patterns each person presents. This comprehensive knowledge allows me to create personalised treatment plans that address both physical symptoms and underlying imbalances.

My Approach to Care

I believe effective treatment begins with deep listening, to your symptoms, your story, and how it affects you from day to day . No two people experience pain, fatigue, hormonal changes, fertility challenges, or emotional distress in the same way, so no two treatments should be the same.

Each session is a calm, supportive space. Whether you're living with pain, managing your cycle, planning a pregnancy, feeling run-down, or simply need to pause and reset, your care is personalised and grounded in the wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine, always gentle, safe, and at your pace.
